Discipling Through Education

Profe Allan has taught at Agua Viva Christian School for four years. In addition to helping the students to develop their accounting skills, he also provides instruction in the area of Christian education. Allan loves teaching the Bible because it offers him daily opportunities to connect with students and to talk about Jesus.

During this global pandemic, Allan has found many creative ways to keep in touch with his students. The difficulties that families have experienced during the many months of lockdowns have prompted our students to take great interest in having honest discussions about spiritual matters. One verse that Allan frequently uses to assure students of God’s presence is Jeremiah 31:3: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” This verse has resonated with the students, who are gaining a better understanding of God’s unconditional love.

Although Allan’s family was not affected economically by the shutdowns because Agua Viva has continued to pay our teachers’ salaries, they’ve taken advantage of their extra time together by having a daily family devotional and prayer time. Allan also has encouraged his students’ families to develop similar Bible study plans.

In the coming year, Allan plans to utilize online technology to create discipleship groups that will encourage students to read Scripture and pray daily. He’s excited about these new opportunities to talk about Jesus’ love!
