Abiding in Jesus

A vital part of fulfilling our mission to make disciples of Jesus is ensuring that, as a team, we are continually growing in our faith. Over the past year, we have been intentional about cultivating an environment and a culture that strengthen our spiritual lives and encourage us to grow in the knowledge of God, so that our work may bear fruit worthy of the Lord’s calling (Colossians 1:10). Our desire is to go deeper into His Word and to embrace the call to share Christ’s love with our students.

In March, we held our second annual staff retreat under the theme: “Abide in Jesus” (John 15:4). For two days, our entire team — teachers, administrative staff, kitchen, and security personnel — met on campus for a special time of learning, reflection, and fellowship.

Every moment of the retreat was carefully planned to remind us that only by abiding in Jesus can we bear lasting fruit. We enjoyed times of worship, attended workshops on organizing our priorities amidst the busyness of life, and reflected on how prayer keeps us rooted in Him. We also carved out space for personal devotional times, which many staff members deeply appreciated, along with fun activities that helped us strengthen our bonds as a team. Our friends from Crawford Baptist Church generously prepared delicious meals, making us feel truly cared for and blessed.

One of the most meaningful outcomes of these retreats has been hearing how several staff members have embraced the practice of personal devotionals, leaving encouraged and renewed. Others have shared how blessed they feel to serve in a place that cares for them not just professionally, but spiritually as well.
This retreat was truly a balm for the soul. We left refreshed, strengthened in our faith, and even more committed to reflecting God’s love in every classroom, office, and corner of Agua Viva.
