From Gaps to Growth

In a country where quality education can be hard to find, sometimes a bold move is the first step toward real transformation. For Ángela, that meant leaving everything familiar behind—including her parents, hometown, and friends—to pursue a better future.

Ángela is the youngest of six siblings and comes from a small village in northern Guatemala, one of the most remote regions in the country. She’s quiet, kind, and loves soccer. But like so many children in rural areas, her school back home faced serious challenges—especially a shortage of teachers—which made it difficult to learn and grow.

Her parents, determined to give her more opportunities, encouraged her to move ten hours away to live with her older sister near Agua Viva. When Ángela heard about the school, she knew it was a place where she could start fresh and aim higher.

This year, she enrolled in ninth grade with big dreams, but it hasn’t been easy. Gaps in her early education made subjects like math and computers feel overwhelming at first. Still, Ángela pressed on. With the support of her teachers, hard work, and plenty of prayer, she’s catching up, and even excelling in the very subjects that once felt out of reach.

Being far from home brings emotional challenges too. But Ángela hasn’t walked this road alone. She’s found real friendships, caring mentors, and a loving school community that reflects the heart of Christ. As she puts it, “I’ve learned things I hadn’t been taught before, like how the Ten Commandments apply to life.” What a joy to see her faith deepening alongside her academics.

Ángela dreams of becoming a veterinarian someday. With her resilience, determination, and God’s help, we believe she will. We feel so blessed to be part of her journey.
