Good and faithful servant

It is with heavy hearts that we write to let you know that our beloved Seño Evy passed away on February 22, 2024. Evy struggled with medical issues for a long time and had to step aside from her role as director of Agua Viva last year to focus on her health. Thankfully she enjoyed many seasons of improved health over this past year and her last weeks she was especially full of energy, even working in her gardens and visiting with friends and family.

Today we honor and celebrate Evy’s life and legacy. Although her passing fills us with sadness we cannot help but celebrate all the moments we shared with her. Her impact on the lives of everyone who knew her will never be forgotten.

Everilda Tzirìn Bal, was born in Comalapa, Chimaltenango on June 20, 1964. She graduated from the university of San Carlos of Guatemala with a degree in social work. In 1999 she began working at Agua Viva and after working just a few short years as a social worker and administrator she was promoted to the general director. She gave her love and dedication to this organization for over 25 years growing a ministry that will go on to serve the children of Guatemala for many more years to come.

Over the last 25 years Evy has helped hundreds of children that have come through the care of Agua Viva. She facilitated various adoptions, helped reunite children with their families and served as a mother figure for many more who grew up at the children’s home. She continued to keep in touch with a lot of children who know her fondly as “Mama Evy”. Even after children left the home many returned to visit and seek her advice. Over the years she has attended numerous birthdays, graduations and weddings and births. Evy’s family was always growing and her generous heart always had room for every child that came through her doors.

May we all live our lives with the same generosity, passion and determination that Evy has exemplified. We know she is with our Lord and Savior and while we grieve, we also celebrate, knowing we will see her again one day in heaven.
