More Than Robotics

What happens when curiosity is nurtured, opportunity is given, and people walk together?

Last month, Agua Viva’s robotics team participated in the FIRST LEGO League Guatemala—an event that lasts only a few hours, but represents months of dedication, learning, testing, and sometimes failing… yet always trying again.

Throughout this journey, a group of young men and women experienced something far deeper than competition. They designed their own robot, solved complex challenges, and presented an innovative project. Along the way, they encountered moments of frustration when progress felt out of reach, as well as moments of joy when creative breakthroughs brought solutions into focus. With courage, they stood before a panel of judges and presented a system designed to recognize archaeological objects using artificial intelligence. Yet even that achievement was not the most important part.

Their coach, Profe Jorge, reflects: “At the end of each season, with every team I’ve worked with, I don’t just see students who participated in a competition. I see students who discovered new skills and grew in confidence as they realized what they are capable of.”

In the midst of building robots and solving problems, these students are also discovering something greater: that God cares for them and is present in every part of their lives—even in a robotics competition.

This story extends beyond one team. Over the years, many groups of students have walked this same path. What began in 2015, when Luke Kephart and his robotics team first visited Agua Viva, has grown into an ongoing opportunity for dozens of students to learn, grow, and be formed.

That first step has borne much fruit over the years, thanks to the faithful generosity of Luke, who has faithfully continued to support this initiative, and other sponsors through their financial support, encouragement, and shared belief in what these students can become.

In 2015, Luke Kephart and his Terrabytes team visited Agua Viva, opening the door to robotics for our students.

We thank God for the privilege of walking alongside these young people as they discover their gifts and learn to follow Him in every area of life. We are also deeply grateful for each person who has partnered with us in this mission. Your generosity helps create opportunities like these, where transformation reaches far beyond robotics.

Thank you for being part of this work!
