Discipleship on the Field

For many of our students in Guatemala, soccer is much more than a game—it is something they genuinely love. For some, it even represents a dream for the future. As we watched their enthusiasm for the sport, we saw a unique opportunity to connect with our middle school boys in a meaningful way through mentorship and discipleship.

That vision led to the launch of our new Soccer Club.

More than an extracurricular activity, the club has become a place where young men are encouraged to grow in character, build healthy friendships, and deepen their understanding of God’s Word. Through practices, teamwork, and time spent together, students are learning lessons that extend far beyond the soccer field.

We are especially grateful for Profe Wesley, a longtime teacher with a deep love for the Lord and for his students. Each week, more than twenty boys stay after school to train, spend time together, and hear biblical truth shared in a personal and engaging way.

One of the greatest blessings of the Soccer Club is the opportunity it creates for discipleship outside the classroom. In this setting, students often feel more comfortable opening up about their lives, struggles, and questions. As trust grows, so do opportunities for meaningful spiritual conversations.

Profe Wesley has already seen this impact firsthand. “This trust carries over into the school week,” he shared. “The boys are now more open, more spontaneous, and far more willing to share what is truly on their hearts.”

By engaging in something our students love, we have been given a valuable opportunity to point them to Christ. Our prayer is that these young men would come to know Him personally, place their hope in Him, and follow Him faithfully throughout their lives.

Please pray for these students and for Profe Wesley as he continues to invest in them week after week. Pray that God would use every practice, conversation, and lesson from His Word to plant seeds of faith that will bear fruit for years to come.

Programs like the Soccer Club are possible because of faithful friends who partner with this ministry. If you would like to help us continue creating opportunities for students to grow academically, socially, and spiritually, we would be grateful for your support. Together, we can continue sharing the hope of Christ with the next generation.
